“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)

I wore a mask one time as a kid for Halloween. The reason I say “one time”, is because I vowed never again.  Masks are miserable!  They feel good at first because it feels like you get to hide or be someone else.  But then reality sets in.  It’s hot, you’re sweating and the worst part is that you keep recycling your own hot breath.

I think that’s how guilt lies to us as well.  It feels good to hide behind something else or to wear a mask at first.  We often hide behind masks, carefully managing our words and actions around others. Why? Because guilt has convinced us that letting others see the real us would lead to rejection. We feel the need to perform to earn acceptance. But the gospel reminds us that in Christ, God has fully accepted us as His dearly loved children. We have nothing to fear or hide. Don’t believe the guilt lie that says you need to fear others and their opinion of you.   We can take off the suffocating masks of performance, live freely and serve and love others out of God’s complete approval.  One habit to help you with guilt is to confess.  Be honest about who you are to some trusted people that care about you. The mask is too miserable to wear every day.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
