4 x 6 Plan | Read: Mark 9:33-50 & 1 Corinthians 15:50-58
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand than to go into the unquenchable fires of hell with two hands. (Mark 9:43)
Jesus teaches we should cut off body parts, give away our possessions, and be perfect like God. Was He being literal, or is the point to try our best and hope God grades on a curve? I used to always think of this as the principles that we should live by. Basically, take God really serious and hope Jesus was using metaphors or extremes.
But what if He wasn’t? What if Jesus was actually saying that we do have to be perfect to be right with God without an ounce of sin in us? Like me, I’m sure you’re in trouble. However, understanding the good news means that we are actually created brand new and completely sinless to God. It’s not trying harder or gouging out your eye…it’s removing sin completely by trusting that Jesus paid the price for it once and for all.
