1 John 2:1-2 Every now and then, someone will tell me that they talked to someone from my past (an old teacher or coach, classmate, etc), and they will talk about the good things the person had to say about me. I assume there are also times when people say bad things about me, but, fortunately for my self-esteem, I don’t hear about those conversations! But, those times when I hear that someone is saying good things about me behind my back is comforting. I immediately like that person more because I know that they are genuine when they are talking to me as well. We don’t always get to hear the things that are being said about us behind our backs, though. Sometimes it’s bad and sometimes it’s good. This doesn’t just extend to the latest small town gossip, though. In heaven, we have an accuser (the devil) who points out every mistake we make and every sin we commit. He’s constantly pointing out that we aren’t good enough, and we don’t deserve God’s love. However, we also have an advocate in Jesus Christ. If you’ve committed your life to Christ, Jesus is in heaven on your behalf. It’s not that He’s necessarily pointing out how awesome you are, instead, He is pointing to His sacrifice that He made for you. It’s His perfect sacrifice that give us hope. We are made right through Christ, and He is in heaven advocating our behalf. Anytime we feel like we have sinned so much that God couldn’t forgive us or don’t feel adequate for the life God has for us, we can take comfort in knowing that we have someone on our side. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:

  1. What was the best part of your day?
  2. What was the toughest part of your day?
  3. Where did you mess up today?
  4. Where did you see God today?
Reflect: Do you find yourself trying to earn God’s favor? If so, why do you think you do this? Do you truly believe that there’s nothing you can do to earn or lose God’s love? Pray: Take a few minutes today to pray for the people in your life who do not have God in their life. Ask God to speak to them and open up opportunities for you to share your faith with them or invite them to church. READ THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT: Today’s Reading: Romans 13]]>
