Read Philippians 4:11-13 Have you ever noticed that good is never good enough in our culture? We enjoyed cheeseburgers, so we decided we needed double and triple burgers. We like television, so we had to add hundreds of channels. We are constantly wanting more and more, never stopping to consider if maybe enough is enough. This is true from fairly trivial things like how many tv channels we get or what’s on a fast food menu to bigger areas of our individual lives. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Even if you didn’t grow up in church or have never read the Bible much in your life, you have probably heard this verse before. Athletes will chant it before a big game, or we might recite it to someone who is going through a tough time. However, this verse isn’t what it seems on the surface. Before we get to this verse, Paul says he has known what it meant to have plenty and to have little in his life. He had learned the secret of being content whether well fed or hungry was that he could do all things through Christ who gives him strength. This is the key to being content with our lives. Realizing that, no matter what our circumstances are, we can be content in Christ. One of the biggest secrets to finding fulfillment in life is learning to be content with wherever God has us in our lives. Paul had gotten to a point in his life where all he had was Christ in his life. Sometimes, it takes getting to a point where Christ is all you have before you realize that Christ is absolutely all you need. We all probably have a good sized list of things we wish we had or of things we think we need. But, at the end of the day, Jesus really is all we need. Everything we have comes from Him. He is the one who sustains us. And, the only true hope we have comes straight from Him. No matter what, if we don’t have Jesus, we’re in trouble. But, if we do have Jesus, we’re good. Reflect Do you agree with the statement “Jesus is all you need”? Why or why not? Pray As you begin your prayer time today, ask God to help you to remember that true contentment can be found only in Him. Ask Him to help you to remember that everything you have comes from Him. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:
