Read Deuteronomy 31:6 When I was a kid, my mom used to let my sister and I go by ourselves to check out the toy section in Wal Mart while she shopped. Our only rule was that we had to stay together. Unsurprisingly, I would try to “lose” my sister while we were off on our own. I would dodge back and forth between aisles trying to get out of sight of my sister while she frantically tried to keep up. This would invariably lead to my sister crying in the middle of some random aisle in the toy department and me getting in trouble. While my little sister couldn’t count on me to never leave her in a store when we were kids, we all can have confidence that we can count on God being there for us. Moses had messed up, so God wasn’t going to allow Moses to lead the Jews to the Promised Land. Instead, Joshua was going to be the one to lead the people to realize God’s promise. As Moses was telling Joshua what God was going to do in his life, Joshua must have been afraid. But, Moses tells him he can be strong and courageous because God was going to be with him. He told Joshua that God would never leave him or forsaken him. Moses’ point was that God is fighting for us, even when we don’t see Him. The world we live in can be a big scary place. There are dangers around every corner. In every facet of our lives, it seems like there is always fear to be felt. But, we can be strong and courageous because God will never leave or forsake us. Our fears take many different forms. Sometimes we are afraid of what others might say about us, we’re afraid of making a wrong decision, messing something up, or even not being good enough. We worry that, if we step out and do what God wants to do, it might not work out. There’s a lot we might be afraid of, but, no matter what, God tells us He is right there with us. He doesn’t say He will make sure everything works out exactly the way we want it to, but He does promise that He will be there to help us through whatever life might throw our way. Reflect What are some fears you struggle with the most? Are these fears something those around you would think you would have? Why do you think you struggle with these specific fears? Pray As you begin your prayer time today, repeat the phrase, “be strong and courageous. He will never leave you nor forsake you” over and over to yourself and God. Then, spend a few minutes talking to God about what that might mean for you right now. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:
- What was the best part of your day?
- What was the toughest part of your day?
- Where did you mess up today?
- Where did you see God today?
