Read Matthew 25:24-27

I loved playing sports as I was growing up. By the time I was in High School, I was playing several different sports. The problem was that very few of the teams I was on were any good. We would work hard, do our best, but we just weren’t very good. Various coaches tried different ways to motivate us to work harder, but it didn’t matter how hard we worked, we just didn’t have the talent to succeed.

We have been taught all of our lives that good things will happen if we work at something long enough. We are led to believe that if something isn’t working, we need to work harder or better. We teach others that if you want something, you can do whatever it is. But, this isn’t quite what God has in mind. God does want us to work hard, but He wants us to put in effort to see God move. He wants us to trust in Him to do more in our lives than we could ever do on our own.

It’s been said that we need to work like it depends on us but pray like it depends on God. This is a profound statement because it says we need to take care of our part while believing, in faith, that God will take care of His. Reflect today on the ways God would have you to work hard, but, instead of getting bogged down in all the “have to do’s” focus on doing what you can and trusting God for the rest.]]>
