Read 2 Kings 4:1-7
When I was a kid, I was so excited when I finally got an original playstation for my birthday. I had wanted it for a long time, and it was the best gift I could have ever imagined getting. I loved that thing…until just a few months later and I learned that the playstation 2 was coming out. All of the sudden, the thing I was perfectly happy with was no longer as exciting. I became so focused on what I didn’t have that I completely forgot about what I did have.
When Elisha asks the widow what’s in her house, she almost overlooks the jar of olive oil she had. She, like we do many times, got focused on her needs and what she didn’t have and nearly missed what God had already given her. God provided for her needs even though she didn’t have what she really wanted.
We can often get focused on the negative side of everything in our life. We focus on what we don’t have, how we wish things were different, and the like, but we forget that God may have already given us exactly what we need to do all that He asks us to do. God will provide for us. He will take care of us. Even more than that, He will use us in incredible ways. It’s just not often how we think it should be.
Spend time thinking through what God may have already given you and trust Him to provide for your needs instead of focusing on what you don’t have.]]>
