Read 1 Corinthians 10:11-13

“I got it.” Those were the words I told my wife just a few weeks after we got married as we were putting together a bookshelf. As any married couple knows, putting furniture together for the first time can be quite the experience. Even though we miraculously made it through without fighting, I kept trying to put the whole piece together by myself. I would move her over, grab the screwdriver from her hand, and move on to the next step. She eventually went into the other room because it didn’t seem like I needed help. It wasn’t two seconds after she stepped out of the door, I read the next step on the directions and realize there was no way I could do the next part on my own. I awkwardly tried for several minutes before I swallowed my pride and asked her to come back in and help me.

It’s not uncommon to believe that we can do everything on our own, but God knows us better. He created us to need other people in our lives. Even those who do not believe they need others will find themselves in a place where we are forced to rely on others.  Even though it’s easy to let pride get in the way, do not be too proud to allow others to help you.

In the Bible, we learned that even Naaman sought the help of others when he was attempting to be healed from leprosy.  He approached the king and asked for his assistance in meeting with Elisha. The king did one better and even provided a letter on Naaman’s behalf. God is able to do considerably more in our lives when we rely on the help of others.

What’s an area of your life where you are struggling or need help? Can you identify someone in your life who may be able to help you face a challenge or help take something off of your plate?]]>
