Read Luke 7:11-16

While I was running a few months ago, I hurt my knee. I told myself it was no big deal and brushed it off.  I took a few weeks off of running, but, when I started back, it was even worse than before. When rest didn’t help and the pain became nearly unbearable, I decided it was time to get it checked out. I eventually gotten things taken care of, but, if I hadn’t came to grips with the fact that something wasn’t right, I would still be sidelined.

Many of us just deal with the pain and make attempts to cover it up, ignore it, or let it overcome our lives.  However, God is always there to help us arise from our pain.  In this story, Jesus is walking alongside a large crowd that is celebrating his teaching and miracles when they literally intersect with a funeral procession.  The widow at the head of the funeral procession is mourning the death of her only son.  She has literally lost everything and most likely has no one left to take care of her.

What are you struggling through. Are you dealing with the pain a failed marriage, an uncontrollable addiction, or the frustration of not being where they thought they would be by this point in their lives.  In spite of all these challenges, the best news is that Jesus not only causes us to rise up from our pain, but reminds us that he will be there right beside us when it feels like more than we can bear.]]>
