Hebrews 12:14-17 Esau’s birthright was to inherit his father’s blessing and inheritance, but he traded his birthright to his brother for a bowl of soup (Genesis 25:27-34, 27:41-45). Esau was angry with his brother for the rest of his life, and he even sought revenge on his brother. Esau’s bitterness grew inside of him until it took over his life. Bitterness comes when we allow disappointment to grow into resentment or when we nurse grudges over past hurts. It’s a root that will grow up and cause trouble for you and everyone around you. Bitterness will not only make you an unhappy, critical, and jealous person, but it will also negatively affect the people who are closest to you.
