Read Matthew 5:38-42

Have you ever been betrayed by someone you trusted and you believe you could count on? It’s a tough situation, and it often leads to feelings of anger and sometimes even envy. These feelings can build up inside of us, and they can cause us to want to react. Many times, we end up betraying and hurting others because they betrayed or hurt us first. We retaliate even if we don’t think we are seeking revenge.

Betrayal almost always starts with anger and envy. Feelings of jealousy and resentment causes people to sin against God and other people. This process of being hurt and then lashing out has become the norm in our culture and in most of our lives, but God had a different idea in mind.

Instead of retaliating when someone betrays you, God says that we should bless them. Instead of lashing out and trying to hurt them, God tells us to help those people. This can be tough, and it goes against our natural instincts, but it is God’s way. God wants us to show the love, mercy, and forgiveness that He has given to us to those who are around us. There is no better way to do that than to bless and help those who have hurt us?

Who has hurt you that God might be wanting you to bless today?
