Bible In A Year | Read: Mark 5

18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. 19 Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”20 So the man went away and began to tell how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed. Mark 5:18-20

Overview of Chapter

Jesus demonstrates his power over demons, illness and death. Each has an interesting twist. The man who had the demons cast out had many demons. Jesus was more powerful, no matter how many there were. The woman only touched Jesus clothes and was healed. As someone who constantly bled, she was an outcast in her society (Leviticus 15:25-27). She was not only healed, but restored to being an accepted member of society. For the girl, it almost seems like Jesus was waiting for her to die before he would arrive to raise her from the dead. He seemed to want to demonstrate his power to an even greater extent.

These miracles are beyond amazing! Jesus is popular, but do people believe in him? Jesus is popular today too. People wear crosses, maybe attend church. They like the idea of Jesus, but do they want to follow him?
