Matthew 15:8-9 Ever since I was a little, I’ve been an “out of sight, out of mind” type cleaner. When my mom would tell ten year old me to clean my room, I would pile things under my bed and in my closet. Things were fine until my mom would come inspect my work. She always peeked under the bed and in the closet first thing and left with instructions for me to actually clean my room. Even today when we have company coming to the house, I don’t usually take time to actually clean and organize things, I simply find a room to stash things in that I can keep our guests out of. In those situations, I didn’t really care if things were clean, I just wanted them to look clean. This is how many of us approach our lives. We want people to look at us and see someone that looks like they got their act together. Like shoving random possessions in a closet or under the bed, many of us hide our mess ups, insecurities, and sins. We shove them deep inside and put on a show for the rest of the world to see. We’re often less concerned with actually being right with God than hoping that others see us as people who are doing well. Being a follower of Jesus is about more than appearing good. It’s about doing what Jesus did and doing our best to live the way Jesus lived. It’s about actually doing what we can to actually clean up our lives as opposed to simply looking like we have our act together for the people around us. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:

  1. What was the best part of your day?
  2. What was the toughest part of your day?
  3. Where did you mess up today?
  4. Where did you see God today?
Reflect: Do you worry more about the way people view you as opposed to the way you actually are with your relationship with God? Why do you think  how other people view us is more important to us many times? Pray: Spend some time praying today that God would help you start caring more about how you actually are in your relationship with God as opposed to how people view you.
