Matthew 16:24 I took a biology class the first semester of my freshman year in college, and it was a rude awakening for me. I had been used to mostly coasting through High School and had fully expected to do the same through college. I was in for a rude awakening when the time came for my first biology test. I flunked it. I realized then that if I was going to be successful in college, it was going to require more from me than I had been used to. It was going to take discipline and sacrifice. It was going to cost me something. Most of us want to coast through life. We want to rack up as much stuff and accomplishments we possibly can while always trying to be completely comfortable. Maybe you aren’t this way, but I often want the benefits but don’t want to put in the effort things require. Jesus said that, if we want to be his disciple, we must deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him. In short, Jesus was saying that, if we are going to be His, it will require something of us. He accepts us as His no matter what without anything we can do to earn His love, but, once we commit our life to Him, He’ll ask us to live with discipline and sacrifice. To deny ourself, to bear burdens, and to follow Him. No matter where you are, God accepts you right where you are. But, He also cares way too much about you to let you stay there. He has so much more in store for you, but, in order to experience it, it will cost you something. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:
- What was the best part of your day?
- What was the toughest part of your day?
- Where did you mess up today?
- Where did you see God today?
