4 x 6 Plan | Read: John 4:1-24 & James 3:13-18
Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” (John 4:10)
I think I know who you are, but I can’t remember… Have you been in a similar situation? You meet someone, and you know that you’ve met this person before. Someone in another context, at another occasion. Something similar happened to me last week in a restaraunt. A lady came up to ask about my parents and kids. Obviously not knowing her…I just said everyone was doing great. Then, she asked me if I had seen Mark during Christmas. Now sheer panic…which Mark?! Do I even know this Mark? I have seen two Marks during Christmas but I wasn’t sure it was “her” Mark. I just said no. She gave me a weird look and walked away. Maybe a better lesson is that I shouldn’t lie to people 🤣.
Something like that happened to the woman in this story. She meets Jesus, the Messiah, but she does not recognize Him. He is a strange man. Different from all other men she knew. She had some experience with men. She had been married five times and lived with the sixth man. And she knew that a Jewish man would not talk to her. She was a Samaritan, and at that time Jews and Samaritans did not like each other and avoided one another.
But Jesus reveals more and more about Himself. And then, at the end of this story she knows who He really is.
The reason she finds out is that she listens and opens her mind and her heart. She is curious. Maybe you want to know who Jesus is. Be curious and keep asking questions and keep searching. Jesus will show you who He is.
