You don’t realize that it’s better for you that one man should die for the people than for the whole nation to be destroyed.” (John 11:50)
What will it take for you to believe? What kind of miracle would you need? In this story Jesus performs His biggest miracle yet. Jesus keeps pushing the boundaries of our faith. In detail this story reveals how Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. He waited four days. Four days! The body was already decomposing.
Lazarus was alive again! This report reached the leaders of Israel. And they were not happy. They didn’t argue the facts. But they did fear the results of this miracle. Everyone was talking about it. The leaders refused to see the miracle as an act of God. They neglected the foretold message that the Messiah would come. They wanted to stop Jesus because in their world He was creating chaos.
The most important leader made a prophecy: “Don’t you realize that it is better for you to let one man die for the people, instead of having the whole nation destroyed?” Without knowing it, his prophecy showed the real purpose of Jesus’ coming to earth: To rescue us all!
