Bible In A Year | Read: Hebrews 6

9 Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are convinced of better things in your case—the things that have to do with salvation. 10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. 11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. 12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.  Hebrews 6:9-12

Overview of Chapter

The writer continues to express concern for those who are struggling to accept the basic teachings of Christianity. Those who continue to treat Jesus with contempt cannot possibly be saved. The expectation is that they will come to a complete understanding of the truth.

Are you understanding and accepting the truth, or are you like the people to whom Hebrews is written? Not following the truth may be easier in a temporary way, but our eternity is determined by what we do with Jesus.

Thoughts on the verses

The Bible encourages us to be diligent in showing our love to others and to have faith and patience in waiting for God’s promises to be fulfilled. At the same time, the Bible emphasises that we should keep diligently and faithfully doing the work of God while waiting for His promises.

Being lazy or being diligent is our conscious choice. When we choose to be lazy, it might feel good and comfortable at one moment, but we will bear the consequences later on. However, if we choose to be diligent, it might be uncomfortable at first, but the reward is well worth it in the end.

One thing to remember, God remembers and takes into account what we are doing and working on. He knows whether we are being lazy or diligent. He will not forget our work and the care that we show to others. Keep reminding yourself to always be diligent as God keeps a record of it. Keep doing your best in school or wherever you are. The best future has been stored for you by God!

Prayer

Dear God, help me not to be lazy in school, at home, work or even in my journey of faith. Help me to always be diligent. Amen.
