Jeremiah 17:5-9 Growing up, most of us couldn’t wait to be independent. We didn’t want to have a babysitter. We wanted to be able to go hang out with friends without a parent present. We wanted to get our license and drive around town with our friends by ourselves. We even looked forward to the day we could move out on our own. This isn’t true for everyone, but, more often than not, we always pushed to have more and more independence. Something inside us causes us to desire to prove we can survive and thrive on our own. We try to accumulate more and more to get by on our own abilities. We want to show that we can do it on our own and can be independent. However, God didn’t design us to be independent.  Throughout the Bible, God puts people and situations in our path to remind us that life isn’t supposed to be tackled on our own.  God also put examples throughout the Bible that we are supposed to model.  Very few of us have had to sincerely pray to God that our basic needs be met because we’re usually saying that prayer knowing that we have a cabinet full of food to eat.  With this in mind, it’s harder for us to depend on God, and becoming self-reliant or remaining independent is a tremendous spiritual disadvantage.]]>
