1 Samuel 30:6 Have you ever said the words, “I’m my own worst critic?” This often comes from people who are super competitive or perfectionists. This drive to always be the best you can be has led to many people to fuel themselves on to do truly great things. However, it doesn’t often end well. Many times, we are overly critical of ourselves, and end up sabotaging ourselves with our negativity. We put ourselves down, and it doesn’t push us forward, it cripples us. We talk to ourselves all the time. We might not have full out loud conversations with ourselves that would cause people around us to give us odd looks, but we do have internal words with ourselves almost constantly throughout the day and when we lay down in bed at night. It’s often in these times when we are alone with ourselves that our true feelings about ourselves are unveiled. Most of us use negative words to describe ourselves in our thoughts. We think “I’m not good enough, I’m ugly, I’m fat, I’m stupid, No one will ever love me,” and the list goes on and on. Just as the words of others can have a huge impact on us, the words we use to describe ourselves to ourselves have a profound impact on our attitude about life. If we are negative to ourselves, we are robbing ourselves of life. If we are positive, we are speaking encouragement and life into our own lives. God loved us so much that He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. He thought enough of us to initiate a relationship with us. If God cares that much for us, we should love and accept ourselves as well. Don’t allow your own negative self talk to ruin your attitude and outlook on life. Sit down today and list out positive things God and others would say about you to look over anytime you feel the negative words creeping up in your mind.]]>
