Proverbs 18:21 & James 3:3-5 I am known as somewhat of a mumbler. I get frustrated with people who don’t hear what I say, but it’s often because I’m just not speaking loudly and clearly enough. I also struggle sometimes with hearing what people say. I have usually gotten distracted, and, when they say something, in my mind I often hear something that is similar but not quite what the person said. For example, someone might say “where did you run?” and I will hear “want to go drum?” Often times, I think I hear something a little more importantly than that, but it’s often funny how, even though something sounds similar, the words can mean something totally different. Our words are powerful things. Our words have the power to affect our attitude and our life. Even small shifts in how we speak or how people speak to us can have a profound impact on us and those around us. We know this to be true because we’ve all been hurt before by the stinging words of someone else, or we’ve been lifted up by their positive comments. A lot of times we allow the words of others to grately impact us, whether we realize it or not, but, when it comes to how we speak to others, we don’t think our words carry much weight. People get hurt, and we think they overreact to how we’ve spoken to them. We need to realize the power of our words and responsibility that comes with that power. Don’t take how you speak lightly because your words will affect those around you and yourself. The way you talk to others can even affect your own outlook and attitude toward life. Do you speak positively or overwhelmingly negative words in your life?]]>
