Read 1 Corinthians 2:9-10
Most people try to learn from the past. We make mistakes or get burned, so we take strides to prevent the same things from happening again. However, if you are like me, I can often take this to the extreme. I often read into things more than I should based off my past experiences. If someone has wronged me in the past, I tend to think everything that person says or does is somehow a plot against me. I’m trying so hard not to get burned again, I read into things that are nonexistent and make something negative out of nothing. It’s one thing to learn from the past. It’s another thing to be held back by it.
Many of us wrap up our identity with our past. We think that what we have done, been through, or experienced is what defines who we are. We struggle to get beyond past mistakes or the tough things that have happened to us that may have been out of our control. Our past can cripple us in the present and future if we let it. It will prevent us from moving on and living the life God creates us to live.
Do you often find yourself caught up with what has happened to you in the past? Do you find it hard to get beyond your past mistakes? One of the great things about God is that He cares much more about our future than He does our past. God is more concerned about who you are becoming than He is who you have been. Stop allowing your past to haunt you.]]>
