Psalm 16:11 We’ve all heard the cliche from our parents, “if all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you do it, too?” So many of us have heard this because we all have a tendency to just follow the crowd. We want to fit in. We don’t want to stick out too much for the wrong reasons. Sometimes it doesn’t matter to us what we ourselves want or think as much as just following the rules and social norms…even without really knowing why. Our uniqueness, though, is found in our ability to choose the road less traveled. Instead of simply taking the path of least resistance, we need to be willing to step out and be our own people. Instead of either just blindly following social rules, we should be willing to step out and be the people God wants us to be. Instead of being like some who completely throw out rules and buck authority, we need to hold to God’s standards for us. We need to balance between legalism and lawlessness. Many times in our life, we will be required to make choices and follow paths that may cause us to stand out, be isolated, or face criticism. Being unique and stepping out to be who God has created us to be can be scary and seem risky, but, like the classic poem says, taking the road less travelled can make all the difference.]]>
