David sounds like he is bragging, but David wasn’t saying “Hey, watch this!”, he was saying “Don’t give up hope!” David was still young. He hadn’t yet been impacted by the cynicism of the adults around him. God’s promises were real to David. He had seen God work in his own life, so when he heard how God had worked throughout the Israelite’s history, he believed it. He also believed that God would work in the future. When he looked around at God’s people trembling in the face of the giant, he was no less astonished at their fear than they were astonished at his bravery. It had never occurred to David to doubt God. The world is hard. Things don’t always go our way. That doesn’t mean that God has abandoned us or that he is unable to keep his promises. Take time to pray today and remember all the times God has came through for you.
