Read Matthew 14:22-33 What’s in it for us? What do we get out of this? What does all of this mean?  All are questions we ask when information is piled upon us. We want to make the right decisions and the best choices. Faith presents us with a difficult challenge. We want to stand in faith because of God’s promises but we are not certain what that will mean for us.  Are things going to go my way? Will there be struggle because of my faith? I want to tie all of our thought this week by looking in Matthew 14.  Christ just fed a ginormous group of people. Afterward, while they disciples are sailing to another town, Christ walks on water. He walks up to the boat and invites them to walk on the water with them. No one takes Him up on His offer except Peter. Peter steps out, walks on the water, but sinks when he takes his eyes off Christ. He was distracted by the surroundings instead focusing on the savior. We all dream of doing something great for God. These dreams might involve some form of sacrifice or great leap of faith. We may know someone who has sold everything to follow Jesus as a missionary in some far corner of the world and view them as a person of great faith, maybe even aspiring to be like them. Consider this, if we had been sitting in that boat with Peter we would have thought he was brimming with faith as he began to climb out of the boat and walk toward Jesus. But suddenly, something even stranger happened and Peter began to sink. That courage and faith he had in Jesus was getting smaller as he saw the wind and the waves getting bigger. We deal with this every time we get excited about something, starting a project only to stop halfway through because it was much more difficult than anticipated. The same thing happens when we believe Jesus would have us do something. But as we start doing it and it doesn’t turn out like we thought it would, or we aren’t seeing immediate success we begin to sink, losing faith in and sight of Jesus. What we must realize is that if Jesus has called us to make a first step, then he will provide a path for each step toward him after that. Reflect A true measure of a person’s faith then is not just the first step of their faith journey, but the subsequent steps thereafter. Don’t forget a statement from our reflection yesterday, “If God calls us to a task, He will qualify us for the job”. Pray As you pray ask God to bring peace to you mind. Ask Him to use His word to show you all the times He was faithful to His people. Ask Him to reassure your heart as you walk by faith in a God who has promised to be faithful to you.     // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:

  1. What was the best part of your day?
  2. What was the toughest part of your day?
  3. Where did you mess up today?
  4. Where did you see God today?
