Daily Reading: Mark 3:7-19
Big Idea This Week:
Don’t play the wrong role in the story
Questions to think about:
We live in a world of hero wannabes. Obviously being a hero is better than being the villain or victim, but the greatest role is usually overshadowed in every story. It’s the Hero Maker.
Jesus did amazing things like heal disease, feed thousands with a kid’s lunch and even cast out demons, but according to Him, his greatest accomplishment was what His Father did through the few He devoted so much of His time to.
Jesus calls us to be hero makers. A hero maker comes along side others to help fulfill their God-given potential.
“Hero making isn’t job training, it’s cultivating lasting relationships with spiritual sons and daughters. It is sharing wisdom, experience, and expertise with the people we are developing. But hero making is also sharing our lives—showing up for celebrations and for crises. It is walking side by side through the ups and downs as an influencer, adviser, and leader. Then it is launching people out to be hero makers for others.” –David Dummitt
I like this comparison of Heroes vs. Hero Makers:
Heroes stand on platforms. Hero makers build platforms for others to stand on.
Heroes receive awards. Hero makers give awards away.
Heroes compare stats. Hero makers share stories.
Hero: “How can I win?” vs. Hero maker: “How can I help you win?”
Heroes try to be a savior. Hero makers point to the Savior.
God doesn’t just want to work in you, He wants to work through you. What if the greatest accomplishments in your life were not about you?
