Daily Reading: Luke 1:67-80
Big Idea This Week:
Don’t play the wrong role in the story
Questions to think about:
In every great story or movie, we typically see four main characters. The Villain, Victim, Hero and Hero Maker. In the movie of our own lives we have to ask ourselves what role do we really want to play.
Villain – I do great things for me.
None of us want to be the villain, but if we are honest with ourselves, we have to admit that we can be selfish and believe the world revolves around us. In every story the person that tries to be the main character when they’re not automatically becomes the bad guy.
Victim – Others do great things for me.
Victim’s make the hero look good and the villain look bad because they never change. They constantly need someone else to help or rescue them. Do you sometimes pretend like the world is conspiring against you? Don’t always shift the blame to everyone else.
Hero – I do great things for others.
Most people think being the hero is the ultimate goal. We dream about saving the day or rescuing others. We want to be the savior.
Hero Maker – Others do great things for God
Zechariah was a Hero Maker. He wanted his son to do great things for God. A hero wants to be a savior, but a Hero Maker wants to point others to “The Savior”.
All of can switch roles several times throughout the day between being selfish, wanting rescued or wanting to save the day. Try to see the greatness and gifts of God in others this week.
