With a few notable exceptions caused by sin, David had always done a great job leading his nation and its army. He was by nature a man of action. He was the first in attack and the last to retreat. Even though he was getting up in years, David still found himself in the thick of things in the battles with the Philistines. The Philistines certainly remembered David. A relative of his old enemy Goliath was hiding and waiting to kill him if one of David’s soldiers hadn’t come to the rescue. That’s when David’s men sat him down and told him that his duty to his kingdom was to keep himself alive and to stay away from the battlefield. Sometimes our duty, the best thing we can do for ourselves and for those around us is to disengage, to recover, to take a support role away from the front lives. Our duty, sometimes, is to simply live to fight another day. If you are struggling, finding yourself just holding on, or feeling overwhelmed, pray today and tell God all your worries and struggles. Ask God to give you the strength to step aside, rest, and recover.
Two-a-days are designed for you to connect with God and those closest to you. Feel free to modify this plan to fit your and your family’s needs.
