Read Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

I’ll never forget New Years Eve 1999. There had been buzz about Y2K for years, particularly the months leading up to the new year. As I sat by the TV and watched the ball drop in times square, I expected full on chaos to erupt. After all the commotion, I thought the lights would go out and all heck would break loose. It was almost eerie that nothing catastrophic happened after all the worries about Y2K.

While it was definitely a good thing that Y2K didn’t wreck the world, we’ve all had disappointing times where we’ve really expected one thing, but we get something completely different in return. For many of us, we make new years resolutions year after year. We want to be healthier, be smarter with our money, spend more time with God and on and on, so we resolve to make a change. We expect big things for the new year. But, just like Y2K, the new year comes and goes, and things are largely the same as they’ve always been.

We all have somewhere in life we want to be. Even more important, God has a plan for each of our lives. More than likely, we aren’t going to get there by keeping with the status quo. What do you need to do, and what do you need to change, to get to where God wants you to be in your life?
