Read Ruth 2:11-12

I heard one time that it takes three consistent weeks to implement a new habit into our daily routine.  With that being said, there’s a good chance that by the time you’re reading this, those new goals you set for 2014 have fallen by the wayside only to return again around January 1st of 2015.  Personally, I’ve set a goal for about five years straight now to read the Bible through in a year.  Unfortunately, I’ve read the first half of Genesis through a few times and not made it much further into the year before this goal ends.

In our lives, doing what’s important always requires consistency.  Often, consistency is often coupled with time.  We seek immediate results from our diets.  We expect instant improvements in our relationships, and we anticipate our debt to dramatically drop when we make our finances a priority.  While immediate gratification is awesome, the important things and changes we want to make in our lives more frequently require consistency and attention.

What’s important always takes consistency. We live in a now culture. We want what we want and we want it now. We have little patience. Problem is that the best things we can achieve in life are often not overnight. Maybe something about people who seem to be overnight successes but it really was years of hard work, dedication, and, most of all, consistency. What’s a small step you can implement in your life this week to make a long term improvement to your life? Can you cut out one meal that you eat out a week?  Can you wake up five minutes earlier to pray before work each day?  Remember that true success takes time and attention.]]>
