Read: Isaiah 48:17-18

The Chinese philosopher Lao-Tzu’s once said “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” It reminds me of the saying, “how do you eat an elephant?…One bite at a time.” For many of us, the New Year has been accompanied by lofty resolutions, ambitious goals, and a fresh desire to make some positive changes to our lives as we begin a new year. I’ve learned personally that the best way to reach any goal I’ve set for myself is to start with a small step and work toward reaching my ultimate goal. Sometimes our goals may seem ambitious, but it’s better to look at those goals as not one big step but thousands of tiny steps getting us to where we want to go.

The same is true in our relationship with Christ as we begin 2014.  What is the next step that you need to take in your relationship with Christ?  Do you need to make attending church each week a priority?  Is it time to accept Jesus Christ as your savior or is it time to take an even greater step of faith and be baptized?

Maybe for you, it could be something as simple as trying out Connect on a Wednesday evening, reading Cross Training every day, or participating in an outreach or something completely different. Whatever it is, be bold and don’t be afraid to take your next step as a follower of Jesus.
