Read 1 Samuel 17:26-47 When you were younger and you went to stores to buy music, did you ever find a CD or album in the wrong place? Maybe it was in the wrong section or just under the wrong letter. I found a couple of my favorite albums that way. Thus far we have talked about Fear’s Song and Pain’s Song. In the middle of a trial these are the only songs to which Satan wants you listening. There is a new song and it’s Promise’s Song. It’s the song that says, “God Is…”. It says God is able, God is stronger, God is in control. David shows up and messes up everything for Satan, Goliath and the Philistines. He does it with Promise’s Song. We already know Saul and the Israeli army are thinking about everything but God; Goliath has seen to that. David shows up talking about God. In fact, he is the only one talking about God. Look at his first words in verse 26, “…who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God”. Those words spread like wildfire. Verses 32-37 is the exchange between Saul and David. I want you to catch David’s statement in verse 37, “the Lord who delivered me from the paw of lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine”. This is nothing but a God-birthed announcement. David did not stop there. In the middle of Goliath’s insults and cursing, David interrupts and sets the record straight. We read David’s words in verses 45-47, but I want you to catch two things. First, David declares God six times in three verses. Secondly, he makes it clear God will give the victory in verse 47, “…for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hand”. Be like David, face you giant’s head on. Don’t let your situation determine the conversation. I love how the pastor/author Max Lucado puts it in his book Facing Your Giants, “Rush your giant with a God-Saturated soul. Giant of divorce, you aren’t entering my home! Giant of depression, it might take a lifetime but you won’t conquer me! Giant of alcohol, bigotry, child abuse, insecurity…you’re going down.” Reflect When you push through the what ifs and acknowledge the pain you might face, you can find the promise of God’s presence. Pray As you pray, continue standing in who you are in Jesus Christ. Ask Him to use His word to guide and direct your heart, mind and mouth. Use His Word to direct the conversation in your life. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:
- What was the best part of your day?
- What was the toughest part of your day?
- Where did you mess up today?
- Where did you see God today?
