Bible In A Year | Read: Hebrews 10

15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: 16 “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” 17 Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” 18 And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary. Hebrews 10:15-18

Overview of Chapter

The writer tells us Jesus’ sacrifice is greater than those described in the Old Testament. The Old Testament sacrifices had to be done on an ongoing basis; Jesus was only sacrificed once. Had the Old Testament sacrifices been sufficient, they would not have needed to continue. In this way, the Old Testament sacrifices made it obvious they were to be replaced by something greater. The Jews who are turning away from Christ and back to being Jews were turning their backs on the greater sacrifice, Jesus, and on their fellow Christians. They are warned not to do that.

It isn’t easy to follow Jesus. We may be tempted to walk away from God or the church. Walking away from Jesus is the biggest mistake a person can make, but walking away from the church is close to it. The church is supposed to be a gathering of people trying to follow Jesus as best they can. We need each other to keep going, especially when it’s hard.

Thoughts on the verses

Batteries are powerful. They can give “life” to lifeless equipment. However, the power inside the batteries will not be revealed unless they are attached to the equipment. For example, we have a clock and some batteries to attach to it. The clock is lifeless without the batteries The power inside the batteries cannot be seen if they are not attached to the clock. They need each other to be activated.

We are like the clock while God’s word is like the battery! We need God’s word to be spiritually alive and the power of God’s word will only be revealed when we read it, meditate on it, believe in it, and do it in our daily lives.

God wants to write His law in our hearts. As His law is written in our hearts, they will help, guide, and protect us. The more we fill our hearts with God’s word and the more time we spend with Jesus, the more power we have to face everything in our lives.

The Bible has the solution and answers for everything.

Prayer

Dear God, thank You for the Bible. Fill my heart with Your word and may Your word be activated in my heart and mind at all times. Amen.
