Read Luke 22:26-27
I am the king of making excuses. If I do not want to do something, I will come up with any kind of story I can in order to get out of it. In fact, I’m ashamed to say that in the past if I’ve known I will be seeing someone who will ask me to do something I don’t want to do, I will already formulate several excuses as why I can’t or shouldn’t do something.
We love to make excuses to get out of things we don’t want to do, and we love to make excuses as to why we can’t or shouldn’t serve. We say we can’t help someone because you don’t want to step on their toes, or we don’t know what they’ll do with the help. We can’t volunteer at church because we are so busy, or we don’t know what we could do. We always have excuses not to serve, but those excuses don’t fly with God.
God created us to serve. When Jesus came to earth, He came as a servant. If we are going to follow Him, we must become servants. If we want to do anything great in life, it takes serving others to do it. If we want to be more like Jesus, we have to stop making excuses and start serving other people in our lives.
