Read 1 Peter 4:8-10

In our culture, we appreciate sacrifice, but we don’t enjoy actually sacrificing. We like when someone gives a huge donation to a cause we believe in, but we cower at the thought of giving a significant amount ourselves. We celebrate when others give their time to do something meaningful, but we make excuses when it comes time for us to sacrifice our time.

Many of us want to serve God out of our excess. When we have alot of free time is when we will give our time. When we have extra money is when we will be generous. If we are very talented in something, we will do it. But, that’s not how God works. He will use what we have alot of, but He will leverage our sacrifice in a much greater way.

If you will serve or give of what you don’t have a lot of, and sacrifice to when it really does hurt a little, God will use your service to do great things in your life and through your life. God is much more concerned about us having a spirit of generosity when it comes to our time, talents, and treasures than He is with how much we have stored up. Don’t fall into the trap of believing that the only way you can serve is when you have extra free time, extra money, or a ton of talent. God tells us to use what we have to the best of our ability and watch what He does with it.
