Bible In A Year | Read: Hebrews 5
But solid food is for people who have grown up. From their experience they have learned to see the difference between good and evil. Hebrews 5:14
Overview of Chapter
The idea of Jesus being a High Priest continues. The writer observes that the High Priest is from among the people, represents the people in sacrificing for sin, understands human weakness to sin and is appointed by God. All of these traits were true of Jesus. We are going to hear more about a priest named Melchizedek later, but he was a priest to Abraham, the father of all of Israel. The writer breaks from his subject to scold his audience for their lack of understanding. What is being explained is something they should already have understood.
We should not be slow to learn like the original audience. Hardship should not be an excuse to fall away, but a reason to look at Jesus suffering for us and be willing to suffer for him.
Thoughts on the verses
Initially, babies are only given milk. The older the babies grow, the more foods they can consume. They cannot grow well and will lack nutrients if they only take milk all the time! This is how our spiritual being is supposed to grow as well. For example:
One-year-old babies can only listen and dance to the Christian songs they hear. They cannot stay still to listen to the Bible lesson.
Five-year-old kids will be able to sing along during praise and worship time and pay attention during the Bible Lessons.
Ten-year-old kids might be able to lead the prayer and share about God’s goodness.
Fifteen-year-old kids might be brave enough to be the worship leader at NXT LVL.
As time goes by, there will be more teaching and understanding to be absorbed and more responsibility to be taken.
However, the Bible says that some people just prefer being in their comfort zone and refuse to take more teaching and responsibility. There are times we might reject new opportunities to grow up spiritually.
Let us keep growing spiritually. Feed your spirit with God’s word day by day. Pray and have a steadfast faith in God as you face a challenge in your life. Have a transformed mindset and be a faithful Christ-follower.
Prayer
Dear God, help me to be a grown-up and mature Jesus’ follower. Amen.

Have you ever thought it would be cool to hear some C3 leaders discuss the daily verses, share about their lives and mostly just talk about nonsense? Of course not!…even though nobody has ever thought that we are still doing it. You can follow along with us each morning in a brand new podcast – Friday Cheap Version of Spam & Grow Up.
