When Eli was a priest in Israel, they had been ruled by judges for hundreds of years. But, things were about to change. Hannah was a woman in agony, childless year after year, but she was about to play a key role in ushering Israel into the era of kingship. Hannah prayed with so much passion that Eli thought she was drunk. When we’re in pain, the world offers plenty of substitutes for us to, but, as Hannah discovered, prayer opens the way for God to work. Hannah’s story shows us where we should go in our distresses. We should turn to God who can transform our desperation into hope. He’s always waiting to listen. Spend time today thanking God for always being willing to listen and share any struggle you are currently going through with Him.
