2 Corinthians 10:12 When I was in college, I tried to learn how to play guitar. I wasn’t very good at it. I was a little self conscious when I would practice because there were several other guys in my dorm who were very good at playing the guitar. What I didn’t realize at the time is that all of those guys had went through the same struggles when they first started out. While they pushed through and became pretty good, I gave up. While I may not have ever been at good as some of those guys, I never found out because I compared myself to them. We do this all the time in our life. We compare ourselves with the people around us. Not only is this habit unhealthy in and of itself, it typically leads to other destructive behavior. We look at the best of people around us while fixating on our own downfalls. There’s no win in comparison because we compare what we don’t know about someone else with what we know of ourselves. In essence, we compare our bloopers with other people’s highlight reels. There’s no way we can measure up to the unrealistic expectations we view in others. God has created us all uniquely the way He wanted us to be. While we all have flaws and faults, God accepts each of us exactly the way we are. We can fight off comparison by being content in who we are. Don’t allow your view of others to cloud your view of yourself. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:
- What was the best part of your day?
- What was the toughest part of your day?
- Where did you mess up today?
- Where did you see God today?
