Matthew 18:1-4 When I was in college, I took several art classes for my major. There were some pretty decent artists in those classes, but many of them were convinced that they were alot better at their craft than they actually were. There was one guy, though, who was crazy talented. His stuff was by far the best in the class. I commented on one of his paintings one time and told him how good it was. I was struck, though, when he started talking about how a professor had helped him learn how to use that specific technique when painting and gave credit for another student who helped give him the idea of what to paint. His humility and gratefulness of others stood out to me in the crowd of people who thought they were much better than they really were. Every now and then, I’ll experience this same sense of awe when I meet people today. Many times, it can feel like the world is filled with self-important people who think they are much better at life than they probably are. Some people, though, seem like they have it all figured out, but, when you talk to them, they are quick to rave about the people in their life. They reflect praise from themselves onto others. They care much more about the people around them than they even care about their own deal. These people stand out like a sore thumb because all the rest of us are so focus on our own stuff. If you want to truly stand out in today’s world, it takes being humble. That may seem counter intuitive, but it’s true. God’s plan for each of us starts with following the example Jesus gave us with His life of being caring and His humility. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:

  1. What was the best part of your day?
  2. What was the toughest part of your day?
  3. Where did you mess up today?
  4. Where did you see God today?
Reflect: On a scale from 1 (people would say I’m really self absorbed) to 10 (people would say I’m really humble), how humble do you think the people who spend the most time with you (family, friends, coworkers, etc) would say you are? Why? Pray: Ask God to teach you how to be more humble by caring more for others than you do for yourself all the time as you pray today. Give God specific examples of how you’d like to become more humble. READ THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT: Today’s Reading: Romans 8]]>
