Jeremiah had a tough job. He was constantly speaking hard truths to his neighbors, and they hated him for it. But, he couldn’t help but speak. When he didn’t, it felt like fire shut up in his bones. It was a simple message he was called to share: turn back to God or see the city destroyed. The people of Judah found their national identity in the city of Jerusalem instead of in their relationship with God. The idea of offending God didn’t seem to bother them much, but when God began threatening their city, Jeremiah was threatening treason in their eyes. Where do you get your identity? If you get your identity from anywhere besides God, you aren’t getting it from the right place. Pray and talk to God about the things you get your identity from and ask Him to show you who He sees you as.
