Even by the atrocious standards of the kings of Israel and Judah, Ahaz was a remarkably horrible king. He had setback after setback , but they never turned him toward God. They only led him farther away. Ahaz lost battles to nations all around him, and it never occurred to him that his lack of faith in God might have something to do with it. Ahaz believed, like many at that time, that there were many God, and their aid and support could be bought. The Lord always made it clear that He was the one true God and all others were imaginary and powerless. He also made it clear that His salvation couldn’t be bought, it came by grace. Do you look toward things outside of God to give you success and get you by? Spend time asking God for forgiveness for this, and ask Him to help you lean on Him in your life.
