“People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came. . . .” — Luke 17:27

My wife and I have been known to do some Christmas shopping all the way up to the very last minute. When we were first married, we actually hadn’t bought one gift until we went shopping (on the night of December 23rd). Thankfully for our kids online shopping exist now. I’m sure if you asked us, like so many other people, we would just say that we had been too busy doing other things.

Jesus warns us that people will be busy on the day of his coming. People will be busy in the way they were in the days of Noah and Lot. When Jesus says this, he does not say that people in those days were busy being wicked. Jesus says that people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, buying and selling, planting and building. They were going about their daily lives and were busy doing everyday sorts of things.

We often keep ourselves busy in similar ways. With school starting back up, let’s set aside our busyness and simply attempt to get closer to Christ this fall season.  By the way, I realize that for some of you this devotional didn’t connect at all because you already have all of your Christmas shopping done for the year…and that’s weird lol.
