Read James 4:13-16 My wife and I were going through some of daughter’s things and we came across her newborn clothes and immediately we were transported to KDMC on that snowy Monday morning in January of 1998. We are now dealing with our baby being a senior in high school. The last chapter of her childhood is beginning and soon it will end on graduation day. It is beyond us where 17 years have gone. The book of James is a straightforward type of book. He is concerned about the practical aspects of Christian conduct, how faith works in everyday life and about giving concrete instruction. James 4:14 is both practical and concrete. He gets right to the point, “What is your life?”. It is vapor, mist, fog. You and I are exactly like vapor, mist and fog here for only a short time. We are temporary. Earlier in the week David wanted God to show him the number of his days. This was to show him how fleeting life was. Now James tells us we are like mist, here for a moment. These are weighty themes weaving their way through our lives. Our focus this week has been on parenting and family, how appropriate this verse is today . In reality our kids are with us for 18 or 19 years before they launch out on their own. Brian encouraged us not only to laugh, live and love our lives to the fullest but to teach our kids to do the same. Reflect Are you busy at work? Does your family have too many activities? Do you all get home in time for bed knowing you’re going to start all over tomorrow? Let me encourage you to look for ways to trim back the activities and find time for a game night or movie night. Remember the tough two letter word people have trouble saying? Say it. Say no to activities and yes to your family. They are here today and gone tomorrow. Pray As you pray today ask God to show you what’s important. Ask him to remind you everyday your family is His gift to you. Thank Him for your kids and the opportunity to share your life with them.   // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:

  1. What was the best part of your day?
  2. What was the toughest part of your day?
  3. Where did you mess up today?
  4. Where did you see God today?
