4 x 6 Plan | Read: Mark 14:32-42 & 2 Corinthians 6:14-18
“Abba, Father,” he cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” (Mark 14:36)
As Jesus shows how the Son of Man must suffer, he explains that even his closest friends will deny and betray him. Yet even in his darkest hour, he submits to the will of the Father (Mark 14:36) and shows how his betrayal fulfills Scripture (Mark 14:49).
First, Jesus predicts that even his disciples will fall away for a short time, fulfilling Zecheriah 13:7. Next, his inner circle of Peter, James, and John let him down by failing to stay awake and vigilant in prayer. Finally, Judas betrays Jesus by handing him over for arrest to the religious establishment.
Jesus condemns their use of violence and goes willingly as the suffering servant to “let the Scriptures be fulfilled.” (Mark 10:49)
