Daniel Week Six, Day Five Read Daniel 6:24-28 After I graduated from college, I decided to go back to school to get another degree that I thought might help me find a job down the road. Halfway through getting another degree, I found out my financial aid was no longer going to be available because of the hours I had. I thought I had just wasted a year of my life taking classes. Things looked hopeless as the next semester drew closer. Finally, at the last minute, my advisor was able to work things out, and I was able to complete my degree. After God spared Daniel’s life by protecting him in the lion’s den, the king commanded that the officials who had falsely accused Daniel were to be thrown into the den of lions. They didn’t enjoy the same success as Daniel did when he was in with the lions. Before they had even reached the floor of the lion’s den, the lions overpowered them. Afterwards, the king issued another decree that people everywhere in his kingdom would have reverence for Daniel’s God. The king’s words were striking when he said that Daniel’s God was the living God that endured forever. This king, who wasn’t a God fearing man, talked about how God’s kingdom will never be destroyed, and how God rescues and saves. He ends his speech with the words, “He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions” indicating that God’s power was greater than His. Daniel went on to prosper during the rest of the king’s reign. At face value, it wouldn’t seem likely that Daniel would survive being thrown into a den of hungry lions. But, God was big enough to save Daniel’s life. Things may seem hopeless right now. As you look at your life, you may feel like there’s no way you’re going to be able to make it through. No matter what you’re going through, God is big enough and strong enough to handle it. God never promises us that we won’t experience trouble in our lives, but He does promise that He will be right there with us providing us with exactly what we need to live the life He’s creates us to live. No matter how dark things may seem, remember that the God who rescued Daniel from the lion’s den is the same God who is there for you right now no matter your circumstance. REFLECT: What has been something in your life that has caused you to not stand up for what you believe in? Why did it throw you off? PRAY: Ask God to help you always stand up for Him and what’s right in your life no matter what the consequences might be. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:

  1. What was the best part of your day?
  2. What was the toughest part of your day?
  3. Where did you mess up today?
  4. Where did you see God today?
