1 Corinthians 13:1-3 We’ve all had times in our life when we have had someone be really nice or helpful to us only to find out they had ulterior motives. They came through for us when we needed them. Chances are you were really grateful until you figured out that the person helped you not just to help you but because of what they could get in return. They wanted a favor from you that you otherwise wouldn’t grant or they took advantage of a situation. No matter what, it can be hurtful when we feel used even when people are serving us. Even though we’ve all been hurt by people who disguised their self focus with doing something for us, we still constantly do this with other people in our lives. We serve or give all to feel better about ourselves, point out how awesome we are, or to get a favor from someone else. This isn’t the way God meant for it to be. God wants us to serve others with no strings attached. Whenever we are around people, God calls us to ask ourselves the question, “how would Jesus show this person that He cared about them?” Once you know how Jesus would care for someone, it makes it easier to know what to do to show them that God loves and cares for them. Serving other people is great. God commands us to do so in the Bible. But, when we serve others for our own selfish reasons, we are only helping ourselves. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:

  1. What was the best part of your day?
  2. What was the toughest part of your day?
  3. Where did you mess up today?
  4. Where did you see God today?
Reflect: Do you ever struggle with doing things with the wrong motives such as helping someone else for what’s in it for you or notoriety? Why do you think it’s difficult sometimes to serve people with no strings attached? Pray: As you pray today, ask God to help you find opportunities to serve others and have the right motives while you’re serving them. READ THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT: Today’s Reading: Galatians 2]]>
