Luke 18:9-14 We too often resemble the Pharisee in Jesus’ story  because we measure our righteousness against that of others. This causes us to be arrogant and critical. But when we measure our righteousness against Jesus, we choose humility that leads to genuine surrender and brokenness. This is the only way to be free from a life of picking other people apart like a real-life game of Operation. I’d like to see a backwards game of Operation. Rather than withdrawing something from someone, you have to skillfully deposit things into them, things like uniqueness, blessing, excellence, love, and friendship. And when we aren’t genuine with our deposits, our nose would light up red and we’d buzz with a shock just to remind us that this operation really matters. My prayer this week has been that each of us who reads these devotions would courageously die to ourselves each day and exalt someone else. Don’t let your victory over criticism end after this week. Take your newly formed habit and be a constant source of encouragement in the lives of others. ———————————————————- This week’s Crosstraining comes from Southland Christian Church in Lexington, KY.
