Read Colossians 3:1-14 In the classic Christmas movie, A Christmas Story, all Ralphie truly wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder BB gun. His mom repeatedly says no and insists that he will “shoot his eye out.” Ralphie is upset with his mom who spoils his fun until he finally get his BB gun, and, predictably, shoots his eye out. Like Ralphie’s mom in A Christmas Story, we look at God as someone who tries to mess us up. He gives us rules to live by and often allows things to happen to us that we don’t like. We look at God as someone who tries to spoil our fun. Throughout the New Testament, and especially here in Colossians chapter three, we are told that, if we accept Jesus as our Savior, we are risen with Christ. Because of this, we are to put to death our old way of life and begin living out the new life we have in Christ. We are to set our hearts and minds on the things of God. The rules He gives us, aren’t to burden us, they are to show us the very best way to life. The fact is that God didn’t come to mess us up, He came to pick us up. God sent his Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sin, so we can have life. He gives us rules to live by, so we can live the very best life we possibly can. He allows us to go through hard times to teach us, help us grow, and prepare for the great things He wants to do in our life. So, as you go through this holiday season, don’t think of God as a buzzkill. Think of Him as someone who truly wants to help you live the best life possible. Reflect How is your life different from the way it is before you accepted Jesus. Or, if you were saved at a young age, how different do you think you are because you have Jesus in your life versus if you didn’t have Him in your life? Pray Talk to God today about the areas of your life in which you could better live out God’s way for you to live. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:
- What was the best part of your day?
- What was the toughest part of your day?
- Where did you mess up today?
- Where did you see God today?
