Galatians 6:3-8 When I played basketball in school, we always had the worst referees. They would always call bad calls against me and my team, and not make any calls against the other team. This of course isn’t true, but I thought it was at the time. Every time I would miss a shot, I would turn around and complain to the referees that I got fouled. If they called a foul on me, I would yell in their direction that I had gotten all ball. I was constantly pointing to them and blaming them for my poor play and for our team’s losing. Had I stopped blaming the referees, I might have actually worked at getting better and making our team better. Unfortunately, my tendency to blame other people hasn’t gotten better with age. When things go wrong in my life, I am quick to point fingers at other people. God has given us responsibility over our own lives. Sure, He expects us to support and to be supported by others, but we are ultimately responsible for our own actions and lives. Unfortunately, things don’t always go the way we draw them up. When things go bad, we don’t like to take responsibility, so we begin to shift the blame from us to someone else. When we point fingers, shift blame, and refuse to take responsibility for where we are, we never experience all that God has for us. Our issues typically have more to do with our heart than it does the actions of someone else. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:

  1. What was the best part of your day?
  2. What was the toughest part of your day?
  3. Where did you mess up today?
  4. Where did you see God today?
Reflect: In what areas of your life do you find yourself pointing fingers at others the most? Pray: In your prayer time today, ask God to forgive you for the times you have shifted blame to other people. Ask Him to help you to take responsibility and see Him move in your life.
