2 Corinthians 9:8-11 Whenever I see someone, especially my wife, mom, or sister, struggling with something, I can’t help but to try to help. Whether it’s opening a jar, fixing a door, solving a puzzle, or any other random important or trivial thing you can think of, I just want to step into help. One reason I want to do this is because of my need to control. Even when it’s something I know I probably can’t do, there’s something in me that wants to try. Another reason I want to help them, though, is that we have an innate desire to provide for those around us, especially as men for the women in our lives. Not that they need it, I’ve been blessed with incredibly capable and independent women who I get to call mom, sis, and my wife, but the desire to provide is still there. This desire to provide, whether for a child, for ourselves, or for those less fortunate than us, comes straight from God. Looking back on my life, I see how my parents, grandparents, and others have provided for me over and over in ways I didn’t realize or even pushed back against as I was growing up. In the same way, we get this trait from God because our heavenly Father wants to be the one who we look toward for provision in our life. When we try to control every little detail of our life, we aren’t looking to God to provide for us. We are robbing God of His opportunity to show up on our behalf. When we take things into our own hands, we don’t allow ourselves to get out of the way to let God do miraculous things in our life. Stop trying to control every little detail of your life. Let God, your Provider, take control and give you all that you need. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:

  1. What was the best part of your day?
  2. What was the toughest part of your day?
  3. Where did you mess up today?
  4. Where did you see God today?
Reflect: What’s one thing you can do this week to take less control that will help you be more of who God wants you to be? Pray: If you didn’t practice “giving your problems to God” in your prayer time yesterday, give over something you’ve been trying to control to Him today. If you did, go back over that thing with God today. How did you do yesterday and/or today? Continue to give that thing you’re trying to control to God.
