Read Psalm 37:3-4 Have you ever noticed that the things you thought would make you happy can sometimes make you the most miserable? Maybe it was that job you just had to have you thought would be perfect, but, once you got it, you realize that it’s draining you and hurting your family. Maybe it was that person you just had to date, but, later, you realize that you hadn’t really gotten to know them and the pain is piling up. Maybe it’s not that extreme. We’ve all wanted that new house, car, or latest gadget we thought would make us feel better about ourselves, but, after a few months, you wanted the next bigger and better thing. Sometimes our desires can lead us astray. In Psalm 37, King David tells us to trust in the Lord and do good. In continues by saying that we are to dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. David is telling us that we can have safety and security if we place our trust in God and live our lives God’s way. He continues by saying that we are to take delight in the Lord, and, if we do so, God will give us the desires of our heart. Being given the desires of our hearts sounds great, but there’s more to it than that. David says that if we trust in the Lord, do good, and take delight in the Lord, that’s when God will give us the desires of our hearts. It’s when we are in tune with what God wants for us and the world that we will truly find peace and joy. Seeing things from God’s perspective is a great way to change our attitude toward life and our circumstances. Sometimes the difference between joy and misery is just how we view the world around us. Do you “Delight in the Lord.” Sure, it sounds kind of churchy and a little bit cheesy, but there’s great power in finding our joy and peace in God. We can spend so much time chasing happiness in our lives that we completely miss the peace and joy God wants for each of us. Reflect We often base our happiness on things of this world. The equation often goes: (Better Possessions + Peaceful Circumstances + Thrilling Experiences + The Right Relationships + The Perfect Appearance = Happiness) How much would you say each of these things affect your happiness? Why? Pray Talk to God today about the things in your life you find happiness in. Ask God to help you first look toward Him for your peace and joy instead of everything else around you. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:
